<p>On Monday, Florida State Senator Carlos Guillermo Smith filed <a href="https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2025/778">SB 778</a>, proposing the expansion of the <a href="https://floridastatecannabis.org/medical">medical marijuana program</a> to encompass individuals suffering from opioid addiction or dependence. If enacted, this legislation would take effect on July 1, 2025, allowing patients with opioid use disorders to access medical cannabis as a treatment option. </p>
<p>Currently, Florida's medical marijuana program includes <a href="https://floridastatecannabis.org/medical-conditions">conditions</a> such as cancer, epilepsy, and PTSD, among others. The <a href="https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2025/778/BillText/Filed/PDF">bill</a> is awaiting committee referral.</p>
