On Monday, Florida State Senator Carlos Guillermo Smith filed SB 778, proposing the expansion of the medical marijuana program to encompass individuals suffering from opioid addiction or dependence. If enacted, this legislation would take effect on July 1, 2025, allowing patients with opioid use disorders to access medical cannabis as a treatment option.
Currently, Florida's medical marijuana program includes conditions such as cancer, epilepsy, and PTSD, among others. The bill is awaiting committee referral.
