With recreational marijuana currently illegal in Florida, the state issues only one license for medical marijuana business in the state - Medical Marijuana Treatment Center (MMTC) license.
Florida's MMTC licenses are issued to medical marijuana operators allowing such businesses to run as vertically integrated cannabis establishments. Therefore, before a cannabis establishment can obtain an MMTC license, the business must receive authorization to cultivate, process, and dispense medical marijuana. There are currently 22 MMTC licensees in Florida. MMTC licenses are issued by the Florida Department of Health Office of Medical Marijuana Use (OMMU). However, in April 2023, the OMMU called for applications for new licenses as Florida intends to double the number of MMTC licensees operating in the state.
This certification is issued to marijuana testing laboratories to ensure that Florida MMTCs comply with all state and federal regulations on the potency and safety of cannabis products in the state. Cannabis testing certifications in Florida are issued by the state's Department of Health through the Office of Medical Marijuana Use (OMMU).
